About Us

You must promise not to tell Tubby about this, O.K?

I just made a very hypnotic video to help slimmers who want to lose weight.

It features my old friend Confucius. That man spoke an awful lot of sense. But I bet you never knew he was a weight loss expert as well.

The mind control techniques they were using back in 500 b.c. were well in advance of those in use today – you might say.

But the fascinating thing is that so many of them still work. That just goes to show how little we human beings have evolved in the last two and a half thousand years.

The techniques recommended in the video work for nearly everyone I know. So if you want to trim down your waist and tone up your muscles for the beach this summer give it a watch.

The biggest single mistake in losing weight is to presume that willpower is important.

When I told my doctor about my success in losing weight he immediately said: “That’s impressive - how have you managed to do that?”
It is interesting that people don’t really listen to my answer. Or, at least, they don’t really hear what I say. I know this because when I have finished speaking, they often say something along the lines of: “You must have a lot of willpower.”

So let me make it quite clear – I do not believe that willpower works for weight loss, or for many other things for that matter.

It is my experience that imagination and autosuggestion are far more important than willpower. I have found this to be true both for myself and for my clients in many different fields of personal performance.

Why Willpower Sucks

The word willpower suggests the use of power or force. What people mean by willpower is, “forcing yourself to do something against your will.”

It seems to me using force against yourself is contrary to nature. Why would you want to do something against your will? This cannot be a good way to achieve any objective.

It is a law of nature that force creates opposite force or resistance. The more you try to force yourself to do something the more you will resist you own efforts to force yourself.

Dictatorships who seek to force people to obey their will inevitably cause resistance groups to spring up against them. Bullies who try to force others to obey them are hated with a passion by those they bully who resist them in every way they can. If you try to force a lock you are in danger of breaking the key. Try to force a car to go faster than it wants to go and you blow the engine.

Force is not nature’s way. So to try to force yourself to lose weight by using the force of willpower is not natural and therefore likely to fail.

If Willpower Won’t Work, What Will?

Many of my clients have achieved success using what the French psychologist Emile Coue called optimistic autosuggestion.

This requires that you condition your mind by using positive suggestions. You do this by repeating words or images to embed them into your subconscious mind.

Coue’s famous phrase, “every day, in every way, I am getting better and better,” is a prime example of the type of self-conditioning that can help greatly with weight loss.

This article is titled, “every day I get slimmer and slimmer” and I do. The evidence is in the diary I publish on my web site.

Most people go wrong right at the start of their weight loss campaign when they have some doubts about their ability to succeed. Such doubt is fatal.

You must believe that you can get slimmer and, let’s face it, millions of people have, and keep telling yourself that you can.

Is it really as simple as giving yourself positive instructions?

If you fill your mind with the thought that you CAN lose weight, you will get slimmer.

So what do you do when temptation strikes? Say you suddenly find a bar of chocolate in our hand.

You ask yourself this question: “will this chocolate bar make me slimmer?” When you answer, “no,” you will understand that the right course of action is to put the chocolate bar down and move on.

The important point is not what anyone else says or does but what you think. The moment you doubt you will fail. The more you keep telling yourself you can succeed the more successful you will be.

Beyond Positive Thinking

What I am suggesting here is beyond mere positive thinking, it is continuous positive programming. What is so powerful about this concept is that the longer you go on planting positive suggestions in your mind the more of a habit it becomes; and we all know how hard it is to break habits.

As part of my own slimming programme I have trained myself to eat only low fat yoghurt for dessert. I happen to like yoghurt and it comes in a variety of flavours, so it’s no great hardship to eat it everyday. I have been doing this now for over two months. The other day at a party I approached a dessert table groaning with a wide variety of delicious desserts. There were strawberries, chocolate gateaux, meringues, a pavlova, sticky toffee pudding, treacle tart and goodness knows what else. Without thinking I found myself filling my plate with fresh fruit salad and yoghurt. The programming had worked.

It is no coincidence that Coue used hypnosis on his patients. It helped them embed positive suggestions into their subconscious minds more quickly and deeply. I have certainly found self-hypnosis a great help. That is why I include elements of hypnosis and autosuggestion in all the slimming videos I broadcast around the Internet.

To work with Susanne and I personally to become a master of using self-hypnosis and positive autosuggestion visit Elite Slimmers.

Because my campaign to lose weight with the aid of hypnosis is so successful I am often asked, “how do you hypnotize yourself?”

I will answer the question, but first I want to discuss a far more fundamental point and the one which I believe has a very relevant bearing on both the subject of weight loss and the effectiveness of hypnotism:

“Why Bother to Hypnotize Yourself Simply to Lose Weight?”

It takes time to hypnotize yourself and it takes a degree of know how to make hypnosis into a useful tool to assist you in your weight loss quest, so why spend the time hypnotizing oneself and learning how to do it effectively?

The first of the underlying questions here is, “what is your motivation for wanting to lose weight?”

If you don’t have a clear and very personal benefit that will be yours when you lose weight there is little point in setting out on the road to lose weight in the first place.

In my own mind I feel quite certain that most people who wish to lose weight don’t have a clear objective in mind when they start, neither do they have a compelling reason why they want to do it.

Motivation Comes From a Compelling Reason

Do you notice that I keep saying “compelling reason?” By that I mean a reason that will propel or drive you to keep going.

If you go to Yahoo answers or any of the diet chat rooms, you keep seeing people asking: “how can I lose weight fast?” Are these people really serious about wanting to lose weight?

If they would just stop and think about their situation for even a few seconds, they would realize that they have spent several years putting the excess fat onto their bodies; so how can they possibly expect to remove it quickly?

People who ask such simplistic questions simply have not thought about their situation at all. They have probably seen a picture in a magazine of a model in a swimsuit that appeals to them and thought to themselves, “I need to get a figure like hers in order to look good in that swimsuit. I’d better shed some pounds quickly.”

Body Fat Does NOT Disappear Quickly

The only way that I know of that body fat can be made to disappear quickly is by surgery. And cosmetic surgery of this type is seriously expensive.

There is another point that should be considered if the idea of surgery appeals to you. It is this, “if you cheat on your body by having the excess fat removed by surgery, are you really interested in the health of your body or are you simply concerned about your public image?”

It would appear that for such people public image is far more important than their health. Which brings me back to the question of your motivation. Personally I believe that health is a far more important reason for losing excess weight than public image.

Think about it this way, your body is for life. You need it to be in a good state of health if you’re going to enjoy a life filled with fun and energy. As this is unquestionably a fact then it would seem to make sense to burn off the fat in a way that cares for the wellbeing of your body and ensures its long-term health. Hence eating healthy foods and taking regular exercise makes sense as the best route to weight loss.

But did you notice that I deliberately used the words “public image” when describing shallow motivation. I believe there is a huge difference in motivation terms between “public image” and “self image”.

A Strong Self-Image is an Essential of Motivation

During some 20 years of coaching managers in large, blue-chip corporations on Personal Performance issues like confidence, motivation, leadership, communication and stress management, I came to realise that self-image was a foundation for success in any sphere of human activity.

Self-image and self-belief are closely bound together in our human makeup. If we can see ourselves taking an action and we truly believe that we can do it, there is a strong possibility that we will do it.

So, when it comes to losing body fat, we need to see ourselves with the ideal body we desire and we need to believe that we can attain that ideal body shape in order to have the motivation to achieve it.

Using your imagination in this way in order to help with weight loss demands the ability to picture ourselves with a new, improved body shape. I believe this is best achieved by working at a subconscious level.

Hypnosis is a Fast Route to Your Sub-Conscious Mind

Hypnosis is simply an advanced state of relaxation. When we are in this state it is easy to daydream and to plant suggestions into your subconscious mind.

I recently read the results of a survey which suggested that the average person spends nearly half of their life daydreaming about what they would like to happen to them. This is clear evidence that we all know how to daydream. What we have not mastered is the art of using our daydreams to program our subconscious minds so that they help us to achieve the goals of our dreams.

If you are going to use this trance state to help with weight loss you need to apply certain rules:

1. you need to regularly practice hypnotising yourself. To do this requires motivation and discipline.
2. You need to have an objective for your hypnosis sessions and a clear image of the ideal body that you are seeking to create for yourself.
3. You need to know how to plant believable and workable suggestions into your subconscious mind whilst you are in a state of hypnosis. Only when you plant workable suggestions into your subconscious can you give it the power to help you. This is why you will be more likely to succeed when you work with a skilled hypnotist during your weight loss campaign.

How I Use My Personal Motivation

My personal motivation is “Happiness”. I simply want to be happy in my life. This is my compelling reason for achieving my ideal body.

In order to enjoy the state of happiness I have two self-images, my physical self-image and my emotional self-image.

In my physical self-image I see myself as being in good health with a vibrant, energetic and strong body. Such a body needs good quality nutrition and plenty of exercise to keep it strong. I visualise such a body as being lean and sinewy. I carry this physical part of my self-image around we me all the time. For me good physical health is fundamental to my happiness.

My emotional self-image shows me as loved, confident, enthusiastic and self-disciplined.

Every day, as soon as I wake up, I hypnotize myself and programme my subconscious with my physical and emotional self-images. I do the same exercise last thing at night after turning out the light and often fall asleep during the process.

I hope I have made it clear how my self-image intertwines my emotional image and my physical image. And how these images control what I eat and my enthusiasm for physical exercise.

These are complex thoughts, feelings and images which cannot be worked out in a few minutes of thinking and imaging time. That is why your ideal body cannot be achieved quickly. But it is also why it is worth the effort to take your time to achieve what you want.

The Long Term Benefit

The wonderful long-term benefit of a successful weight loss campaign is of course the ideal body you want. The knowledge that it was achieved as a result of your efforts and that you will be able to maintain that body is the icing on the cake.

Also, as you achieve the ideal body you want you will find that, because you are in charge of the campaign, you will grow in confidence and self-belief and these feelings will improve and strengthen your self-image.

As I said, all of these feelings and images are intertwined.

How To Hypnotise Yourself

I use two methods.

When I am near my computer or a CD player, I use recordings to talk me down into a state of relaxation. These recordings are specifically designed to help me relax and daydream about my ideal body. They encourage me to eat healthy, tasty foods, to exercise regularly, and feel happy, confident and enthusiastic.

It is very useful to have a “voice in your ear” as you drift away into your daydreams. The voice serves to direct your thoughts and remind you of what you should be daydreaming about.

The recordings also provide fresh ideas to my subconscious mind so that the programming messages do not get stale.

When I am lying in bed at night or in the morning, I simply do breathing exercises and use my hypnotic triggers to send me quickly into trance mode where I visualise my ideal body and my emotional self-images.

There’s a lot of misinformation out there about weight loss and about hypnosis.

Most people still think it’s a good idea to go on a diet when we know that 95% of people who lose weight on diets put it right back on again, in next to no time.

So, why bother to diet?

The fact is that people get to be overweight by eating too much, and by eating foods that encourage weight gain. So the answer is simple, stop eating the weight gaining foods and start to eat foods which will keep your weight steady and fill you with energy.

But, and this is a BIG BUT –

human beings are creatures of HABIT. Once we have got into the habit of eating certain foods our body thinks that’s what’s right for us and demands more of the same.

So, if you’re going to switch from eating processed foods and fast foods to eating healthy, energising foods, you need to change a well-ingrained habit.

And that’s where hypnosis becomes really valuable. Hypnosis has a good track record of helping people with “bad” habits to change. It has helped millions of smokers kick the habit. It has stopped nail-biters from chewing and cured people of their fear of snakes.

I know for a fact that hypnosis is a real help in losing weight because I am using it myself right now, as I write this article. I have lost 11 pounds in the last 58 days.

Changing What I Eat

My weight loss progress has been steady and continuous. Most important of all it has been relatively painless. In fact a lot of the time it has been really enjoyable.

It has been both interesting and enjoyable to learn to prepare and eat new combinations of foods. Yes, the way you combine foods together in your new eating regime is really important if you are to get the most benefit from the foods.

I have to admit that I was expecting it to be a lot of hassle to change my eating habits, but that has not been the case. The recipes I use do not take a lot of time to prepare and the new flavours I am enjoying now have given my palate a new lease of life.

Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy many of my old favourites, I just don’t eat them so often or in such large amounts as I used to.

Oh, and by the way, I still enjoy a glass of wine or beer on social occasions.

Exercises to Lose Weight

Of course I combine exercises to lose weight with my change of diet. I don’t honestly know what proportion of my weight loss is due to my change of diet and what proportion is due to the exercise. All I know is that doing the simple isometric exercises has made me feel a lot fitter and more energetic.

You probably already know that expending energy helps to create more energy. The benefit I hadn’t reckoned on was that as my muscles have got tighter and my weight has come down I actually feel much better in myself. I feel happier and more confident.

Sorry, I almost forgot to mention the Hypnothon

The purpose of the hypnothon is to give people a chance to experience what it is like to be hypnotised. I think this is important because I know that a lot of people are a little concerned that they might lose control or come under the influence of something outside of their control. At the hypnothon you will be able to either allow yourself to fall into hypnosis or simply to watch and learn. You will learn how to hypnotise yourself.

I am such a strong believer in the importance of hypnosis as an agent for changing habits that I want the whole world to know about this wonderful tool and to learn how to use if for their own benefit.
