When I set out to lose weight I weighed 191 pounds. This morning the scales read 163 pounds. My target is 161 pounds. Nearly there!
So far I have lost 28 pounds, slowly.
What has been the secret of my success?
It seems that without giving it much conscious thought I have been following what I have come to think of as a Caveman Menu and a Caveman Lifestyle. I will write a lot more about this in the near future. But for now you should think about what a caveman or cavewoman would have eaten in the days before agriculture.
For now all I can say is that it works.

Carrots are healthy because they are very low on calories. They keep your waistline slim and keep body fat at bay which protects to you against some serious diseases. At the same time carrots give you lots of the immune defense friendly beta carotene, plus food fibre which is good for your stomach and circulation.
Tip: Carrots are renowned for their ability to stabilize your blood sugar level. For this reason snacking on carrots is a good good way to prevent your blood sugar level rollercoasting during the day.

I expect you’ve heard of the “80/20 Rule” which states that 20% of the people in any group do 80% of the productive work. Well, my brilliant Partner Susanne (please, don’t tell her I said that, she’ll get big headed) has come up with an “80/20 Weight Loss” format.
What she has discovered is that if you use your weight loss hypnosis correctly and eat good healthy foods and exercise properly 80% of the time, you can treat yourself on occasion.
My own experience bears this out. For instance yesterday I had a healthy breakfast of Muesli, lunch was a tuna salad and an apple, I had a snack at 5 pm; multi-grain cripsbread with jelly, 2 dates, 2 dried apricots and 10 almonds. I then played tennis for 2 hours.
After tennis I had 1.5 pints of lager beer. As it was after 9 pm when I got home, for dinner I had beans on 2 multi-grain crispbreads and fruit.
When I got on the scales this morning I was 1 pound lighter than at the same time yesterday morning. And this happened despite drinking 1.5 pints of beer that most diets would, I feel sure, absolutely forbid.
The point is that I like beer and I don’t want to make myself feel deprived, just because I am in the process of bringing my weight down and toning my body.
If you read my articles regularly you will also know that the day before yesterday I ate a full birthday lunch with wine and beer.
Obviously you can’t stuff your face with calories all the time and expect to lose weight. But the point I’m making here is that you don’t have to starve yourself like a hermit in order to achieve steady weight loss. (I will be definitely careful about my calorie intake today.)
Provided that you follow Susanne’s advice and eat sensibly of healthy foods and exercise regularly eighty percent of the time, you will lose weight.
This 80/20 Weight Loss Rule really appeals to me because it makes sense. It also fits in with my social and work schedules.

There’s a lot of misinformation out there about weight loss and about hypnosis.
Most people still think it’s a good idea to go on a diet when we know that 95% of people who lose weight on diets put it right back on again, in next to no time.
So, why bother to diet?
The fact is that people get to be overweight by eating too much, and by eating foods that encourage weight gain. So the answer is simple, stop eating the weight gaining foods and start to eat foods which will keep your weight steady and fill you with energy.
But, and this is a BIG BUT –
human beings are creatures of HABIT. Once we have got into the habit of eating certain foods our body thinks that’s what’s right for us and demands more of the same.
So, if you’re going to switch from eating processed foods and fast foods to eating healthy, energising foods, you need to change a well-ingrained habit.
And that’s where hypnosis becomes really valuable. Hypnosis has a good track record of helping people with “bad” habits to change. It has helped millions of smokers kick the habit. It has stopped nail-biters from chewing and cured people of their fear of snakes.
I know for a fact that hypnosis is a real help in losing weight because I am using it myself right now, as I write this article. I have lost 11 pounds in the last 58 days.
Changing What I Eat
My weight loss progress has been steady and continuous. Most important of all it has been relatively painless. In fact a lot of the time it has been really enjoyable.
It has been both interesting and enjoyable to learn to prepare and eat new combinations of foods. Yes, the way you combine foods together in your new eating regime is really important if you are to get the most benefit from the foods.
I have to admit that I was expecting it to be a lot of hassle to change my eating habits, but that has not been the case. The recipes I use do not take a lot of time to prepare and the new flavours I am enjoying now have given my palate a new lease of life.
Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy many of my old favourites, I just don’t eat them so often or in such large amounts as I used to.
Oh, and by the way, I still enjoy a glass of wine or beer on social occasions.
Exercises to Lose Weight
Of course I combine exercises to lose weight with my change of diet. I don’t honestly know what proportion of my weight loss is due to my change of diet and what proportion is due to the exercise. All I know is that doing the simple isometric exercises has made me feel a lot fitter and more energetic.
You probably already know that expending energy helps to create more energy. The benefit I hadn’t reckoned on was that as my muscles have got tighter and my weight has come down I actually feel much better in myself. I feel happier and more confident.
Sorry, I almost forgot to mention the Hypnothon
The purpose of the hypnothon is to give people a chance to experience what it is like to be hypnotised. I think this is important because I know that a lot of people are a little concerned that they might lose control or come under the influence of something outside of their control. At the hypnothon you will be able to either allow yourself to fall into hypnosis or simply to watch and learn. You will learn how to hypnotise yourself.
I am such a strong believer in the importance of hypnosis as an agent for changing habits that I want the whole world to know about this wonderful tool and to learn how to use if for their own benefit.

Danish Author and Journalist Rolf Dorset ate no solid food at all for 86 days in 2007. For the first week he didn’t even drink any water.
The 70 year old said: “I wanted to challenge the current scientific wisdom to see if it is possible to sustain life without eating solid foods, because if this turned out to be true it would be a breakthrough in our view of the material world.”
Dorset is not alone in his views; throughout history there have been well documented examples of people who have survived on liquids alone.
It would appear from my translation from the Danish account of Dorset’s fast that he used a process known as Prana in combination with the 21 Day Fast.
Prana is a Sanskrit word which can best be translated to mean “vital, life-sustaining force or vital energy”. This is sometimes translated as “living on light”. It is a concept of both Ayurveda and Yoga.
In particular it would appear that he was following a programme promoted by Jasmuheen and the Self Empowerment Academy in Australia.
It is interesting to note that the 21 Day Fast of living on light and water promoted by Jasmuheen was tried by Anne Karine Moss and Frank Jensen in 2001 at their retreat at Moinhos Velhos in Portugal. Frank wrote a detailed diary of exactly what he experienced. They both lost weight during the fast. However, it is important to point out that they had carers looking after them the whole time.
After the 21 Day Fast it would appear that Rolf Dorset then sustained himself on Prana, juices and soups for the remaining 65 days of his experiment.
In his article in a Danish newspaper he claims that he only lost 17 kilos (37 pounds) weight in the 86 days that he was on his restricted foods intake (say 3 pounds a week). Conventional scientific wisdom seems to suggest that he should have lost 43 kilos (95 pounds) if he had not eaten solid foods for that period of time.
Having read the two accounts of using the 21 day fast I have to conclude that unless you are experienced at fasting it is NOT a good idea to deprive yourself of food for anything other than a minimal amount of time. I found it unnerving to read how weak Frank and Anne became when they tried it out.
The lesson would seem to be that living for any more than a day or two on a restricted diet should be carried out under supervision.
It is not a good idea to suddenly restrict your calorie and fat intake without changing and reducing the activities in your daily routine at the same time. We would NOT recommend a greatly reduced diet for anyone doing a normal job.
